Little One has been an ongoing side-project for singer/guitarist and song-scribbler Scott Siegling since his days with seminal IC band Horny Genius in the late '80s. Currently working on an interdisciplinary Ph.D. on the avant-garde and institutions along with ongoing involvement in Intermedia artist Hans Breder's computer-related perfromance pieces, Siegling has, nevertheless, managed to find time to squeeze out some "product."

Recorded last fall with bassist Jason Brickey and drummer/backing singer Muffin, Janet includes a dozen punchy rock 'n' roll ready-mades (10 "first takes," two "seconds") which combine power-pop, glam, punk and garage rock with winning, minimalist flair.

Siegling's wobbly, reedy voice (think early Lou Reed or the Only Ones' Peter Perrett) isn't much to write home about, but given the catchy, chunky settings (and the just-right balance he strikes between enthusiasm and ennui), it works out fine.

I've always been a sucker for this kind of stuff, and most of it falls into the run-of-the-garage category, but the heartfelt Back in school, the rump-thumping Leni and the dizzying skronk of In the Air are so good I'll bet his sister almost doesn't mind Siegling using her name and senior class photo for the cover...
